What are three things a stylish woman should never leave home without. A great pair of shoes/heels, the perfect shade of lipstick and a chic piece of jewelry.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs? Living in Huntington Beach, CA, I’m inspired by the ever changing colors of the sunset and the varying hues of blues and greens of the ocean. Also, having lived in Los Feliz/Silver Lake, I’m also inspired by the eclectic, edgy, artsy attitude of Indie designers.
What was the turning point for you as a designer? Recognizing that my family and friends are not the only ones who love and appreciate my jewelry.
Your pieces are great for layering, as well as wearing alone, what is the one Mimi Kim piece no woman should be without? I would definitely recommend the long coin pearl necklace. I believe every woman should own pearls: they exude a warm inner glow and shimmering iridescence and flatter any complexion. The long coin pearl necklace looks casually chic layered with a few dangly chains or a single charm necklace or can be worn doubled for a more dramatic, sophisticated look.
What is your favorite gemstone? Although I have a fondness for all gemstones, I love the aquamarine gemstone for its striking color and beauty. The name Aquamarine is derived from the Latin words for sea (aqua) and water (marine) and evokes feelings of calm, strength and serenity.
What do you bring to the beach? A large pair of sunglasses, a big bottle of water, sunscreen and a sketchbook.
Describe the best location for a model doing a Mimi Kim photo shoot? Either a lush, tropical island or a modern, cosmopolitan city; both would complement Mimi Kim Jewelry.
What are you most passionate about? What influence do they have on you as a designer. Art, Fashion and Culture; I like to embrace all three aspects when I’m designing: I want each piece of jewelry to be creative and imaginative, chic and stylish and reflecting an appreciation for history and diversity.
