Key Trends: Spring fashion is blooming with color. This year spring fashion will mimic the colours found in nature; flowers, sun, sky with an added burst of vibrancy that takes everything you wear up a notch. You’ll find colours like cobalt blue, fuschia, apple green, tomato red and daisy yellow in collections by Matthew Williamson, Diane Von Furstenberg , Zac Posen and Alexander McQueen. You'll also find art inspires style this spring with sculptural shoes and bold colors and patterns on handbags by Prada and painterly, brush stroke dresses by Chloe and Rachel Roy .
The Studio 54 era lends inspiration to the glamour pieces you’ll see by designers like Halston, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo (shoes shown left) and Michael Kors. These disco diva pieces that will bring you back to that decadent time while updating your spring style. Spring weather beckons us to get out and get fit or at least look the part. Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler present us with luxe sport looks that will bring out our inner athlete, all the while remaining chic.
The two biggest prints in focus this spring are tribal and floral.- think globalization right from the political platform to the human form translated into romantic safari looks. Feminine floral prints are my favourite and this season you can find a garden of roses, daisies, lilacs, poppies and hydrangeas adorning dresses, tops, skirts, even shoes. Feminine, flowing, sheer layers, transparent panels and peek a bow insets draped the runway in collections by Chloe, Fendi and Alexander McQueen . Many of the runway’s girl-meets-gothic glam rock looks showcased stronger shoulders in jackets and tops. Skirts billow with more volume and movement. Belts are thinner and bring attention to the waist creating an hourglass figure.

A great pair of sunglasses updates any look, any season. By choosing a pair with timeless lines, you will make the most of your investment. Make sure the size and shape works well with your face. No matter how much I like the look of large, round black sunglasses they overpower my small face and look awkward. The retro shape of a medium sized cat-eye frame works much better for me. Add trends sparingly. A bright pair of pumps, sandals or flats will instantly update a black pencil skirt, add new life to your skinny jeans and instantly make last year’s a-line skirt look fresh.
Develop your own personal style. From the years of working on Style Envy I’ve discovered there are pieces that I forever turn to, that make me feel like me. I wear a cashmere sweater, wool or tweed trousers, suede pointy toe flats with an interesting necklace, bracelet or earrings, never all three. It’s simple and works with, not against my lifestyle. Think about your every day life. Choose fashion that will accent your best features and present you in a confident, effortless way.
