I set my sights on the Furoshiki handbag in Gold Metallic in Spring 2004. I fell in love with the unique design, the way the lines formed an interesting contour of negative space. I hesitated to purchase it because I wasn't sure how a gold handbag would work as my everyday accessory. Several months later I started seeing it again in select online boutiques and online editorial sites. I knew we were destined to be together. This bag looks great on screen and even better up close. It's roomy but still elegant. It works with both day and night looks. It measures 18" from top to bottom and is 16" wide. It's made of soft metallic gold leather that is radiant against direct light. The inside is uncomplicated. Lined in lavender satin to compliment the gold, there are two small compartments against the back; one that zippers, and a small open pouch.

There is also a secret pocket on the outside front diagonal seam. There are two O shaped shells adorning each ruched strap. It fits nicely on my shoulder leaving my hands free for more shopping. It has a hidden magnet closure the size of a quarter. My only criticism is that the magnet doesn't close so easily if the bag contains too much. You then must manipulate the two sides of the bag together until the magnets meet. I have never used the secret pocket. It doesn't close so I wouldn't recommend storing anything of great value in it. Since the bag is not mass produced it possesses some imperfect qualities, such as the areas where you can see the stitching. Ananas Furoshiki is a beautiful handbag. Cost $260, slightly less then mid-range designer bags but with oh-so-much more individuality. The Ananas Furoshiki bag can be purchased at Coco & Delilah.
